Riding on the wave of meeting successful female figures within the games industry recently (and also the strange and unrelenting urge to create headline titles out of classic pop songs), I was more than cheered up to find out about Silicon Sisters, a brand new games development company.
The Canadian company has been founded by Brenda Bailey Gershkovitch and Kirsten Forbes and has been set up up with a focus on creating games for a more female-centric audience. The company will be the first of its kind to be female owned and with an all-female design team; a good, solid step forwards to showcasing stronger female games roles.
What’s also a relief to know is that the company have no desire whatsoever to ‘pinkify’ games. According to the founders, the aim of the game (see what I did there?) is to create products that ’truly appeal to and resonate with the female audience’.
And I for one, am looking forward to seeing what kind of games will be produced – exciting times are ahead!
